Discover the Exceptional 1880 Whitwhams Millennium Port
In the heart of the Douro Valley, Cristiano van Zeller, formerly associated with Quinta do Noval, made an extraordinary find in 1999. While visiting a winery in Regua that was ceasing operations, Cristiano's initial interest in stone lagares for his own vineyard led to an unexpected discovery. Amid the old stock, he uncovered a rare treasure: a cask of 1880 port wine, which had withstood the test of time, with half of its contents preserved over 119 years, the rest surrendered to evaporation.
Originally intended to be released as a centennial celebration for the new millennium, regulatory naming conventions dictated it could only be labeled as 'over 40 years'. Hence, the 'Millennium Port' was born, with the wine eventually bottled in 2002 by Niepoort, who also added a touch of their esteemed 1945 vintage.
A word of caution to connoisseurs, the corks of Whitwhams Millennium Port 1880 may present a challenge upon opening. We recommend utilizing a Durand® corkscrew or a Coravin for the best experience.
Whitwhams Millennium Port 1880 is a Colheita Port of unparalleled character. Presented by Niepoort in 2002, its condition is impeccable.
